Connecting an Xbox controller
USB is the most dependable route: a data micro-USB or USB-C cable, then press a button. For Bluetooth, hold the pair button on the top edge until the Xbox button flashes quickly, then pair from your system settings.
Xbox Wireless Adapter connections also work, but the adapter must be recognised by the operating system first.
Connected to Windows but not visible here
Windows sometimes holds the controller exclusively. Close the Xbox Accessories app, Steam with Steam Input enabled, and any remapping utility, then reload this page and press a button.
If the pad still does not appear, try another USB port and cable, and check for a controller firmware update in the Xbox Accessories app.
Checking Xbox controller drift
Rest the pad on a flat surface, release both sticks and run the timed resting measurement. It reports current, average, median, peak and 95th-percentile offset per stick along with the centre position, so a wandering stick is obvious rather than a matter of opinion.
Xbox Wireless Controllers commonly show a slight resting offset that never causes a problem in play. What matters is whether the movement is sustained and large enough to push a character or camera on its own.
If the reading is borderline, the deadzone test shows exactly how much of that movement a typical game would ignore.
Testing A, B, X, Y, the bumpers and the rest
The guided button sweep covers A, B, X and Y, LB and RB, the D-pad, both stick clicks, View and Menu, and counts how many of the pad's buttons have responded so far.
Buttons that stay active after release are reported as stuck states. Retest, try another cable and another browser before treating a missing input as a hardware failure — the Xbox button in particular is often taken by Windows.
LT and RT trigger travel
Live LT and RT bars show resting value, maximum, total travel, smoothness and the left-to-right difference. A healthy trigger rests at zero, moves smoothly and reaches full range.
Impulse trigger rumble is not exposed to web pages, so a quiet trigger here says nothing about the motors inside it.
Testing an Xbox controller on PC
Wired USB, Bluetooth and the Xbox Wireless Adapter all work, as long as the operating system recognises the pad first. Chrome and Edge give the most consistent results.
A controller that works in games but not in the browser is usually being captured: close the Xbox Accessories app, Steam with Steam Input enabled, and any remapping tool, then reload and press a button.

- Does this work with an Xbox Series X or Series S controller?
- Yes, and with Xbox One pads too. All of them report the standard mapping, so the on-screen names match your hardware.
- Why do LT and RT show a value when I am not touching them?
- A small non-zero resting value means the trigger is not returning fully. Clean around the trigger and retest before assuming a fault.
- The Xbox button does nothing on this page. Is it broken?
- Probably not. Windows frequently captures that button for the Game Bar before a web page can see it.
- Can I check Xbox stick drift here?
- Yes — run the resting drift measurement and read the 95th percentile figure for each stick.
- Does an Xbox controller need a driver to be tested in a browser?
- No. Once the operating system recognises the pad, the browser reads it through the standard gamepad interface with no extra software.
- Why does my Xbox pad vibrate in games but not on this page?
- Rumble control is only offered to web pages by some browser and controller combinations. It is a browser limitation, not a sign of a faulty motor.
